Journey to remote and spectacular tropical Pacific islands for seabirding and snorkeling experiences par excellence, with a grand finale two-day visit to legendary Easter Island.

The tropical Pacific is a dazzling realm of remote and seldom-visited island archipelagos. Specks of land amid a vast sea, these islands are places of remarkable scenic beauty typified by cloud-wreathed volcanoes, crystal-clear lagoons, rocky islets, white-sand beaches, fringing reefs, and atolls. Complementing the scenic wonders, this region hosts marvelous collections of breeding seabirds, endemic landbirds, and fascinating Polynesian culture.

In collaboration with Zegrahm Expeditions, we will explore Southeastern Polynesia on this voyage from Tahiti to Easter Island aboard the 100-guest, all-suite Caledonian Sky. Birding will be a major theme, but a palette of other activities gives this trip widespread appeal. Embarking in Tahiti, we’ll savor the natural and cultural riches of that famous location before arcing up to the Marquesas via the Tuamotus, then down to the Pitcairns, and finally to Easter Island.

By ship, by Zodiac, and on shore, we’ll seek a wealth of seabirds and endemic landbirds, some of which are restricted in occurrence to the tropical Pacific region, including Great and Lesser frigatebirds; Tahiti, Phoenix, Herald, and Kermadec petrels; Christmas Shearwater; Tuamotu Sandpiper; White Tern; Blue-gray Noddy; Blue Lorikeet; Nuku Hiva Pigeon; Marquesan Swiftlet; Henderson Island Crake; and Stephen’s Lorikeet. Meanwhile, snorkeling opportunities abound; amid some of the most beautiful waters in the world, we’ll observe thriving coral reefs and remarkable arrays of colorful tropical fishes.

Expedition highlights include visits to several islands in the Tuamotu Archipelago: Rangiroa, Puka-Puka, Puka Rua, and Mangareva; three days in the Marquesas, widely considered one of the most beautiful island groups in the South Pacific; going ashore at all four of the Pitcairn Islands including Henderson, a World Heritage Site and a key seabird breeding location; Ducie, rimmed with white-sand beaches and crystalline lagoons; and Pitcairn itself, the fabled hideout of the HMS Bounty mutineers in 1790. Finally, we’ll spend two days at legendary Easter Island where we’ll visit the ceremonial center of Ahu Vinapu and see the famous Moai monolithic stone carvings.

All travel and meals aboard a lovely small adventure cruise ship; lots of activity options for birders and non-birders: plenty of shore excursions, seabirding, snorkeling outings, and some cultural performances.
