Andean Cloud forest birding at its best perfectly describes VENT's Northern Peru tour. Based at a single site, our home for the week is the new forest-based Owlet Lodge in the Abra Patricia Pass, with birds right outside our rooms, and spacious and comfortable bungalow accommodations in a pristine 13,000-hectare cloud forest reserve. Abra Patricia is famous for its stunning array of rarely seen range-restricted endemics, including the mythical Long-whiskered Owlet and possibly the classiest of all hummingbirds, the Marvelous Spatuletail, both seen well on my scouting trip!
The Owlet Lodge is an excellent base from which to explore this rich avifauna; at our doorsteps we have a superb network of well-kept forest trails, a new canopy tower, and an array of hummingbird feeders. Exploring the lower reaches involving a few short drives for excursions to middle elevation with no high elevations reached. We are pleased that our visit will also assist with the conservation efforts for this spectacular reserve.
I am looking forward to showing you this true gem of the Peruvian cloud forests and its unique birds. See the full tour description here: NORTHERN PERU'S CLOUD FOREST ENDEMICS
