A fantastic opportunity to visit this unique tropical paradise in comfort while enjoying some excellent birding and the chance of seeing many charismatic endemic species.

Our time in New Caledonia will be spent on the main island of Grand Terre. We will enjoy visits to two excellent areas of protected forest, including the Blue River Provincial Park and Parc Provincial des Grandes Fougères, as well as the grassland area of Bourail.

The remarkable Kagu will be high on our list of targets, but there are many more beautiful and little-known endemics to enjoy in New Caledonia. The rare and strange Crow Honeyeater, Horned Parakeet, stunning Cloven-feathered Dove, tool-using New Caledonian Crow, and the shy New Caledonian Grassbird are just some of the great birds on offer.

We will stay at fine lodgings in the capital, Noumea, and at a beach resort along the western coast—two nights at each.

There is also the potential option to add a visit to some of the satellite islands of Ouvea and Lifou—please inform the VENT office upon booking.

Excellent accommodations and food, including French cuisine; travel by minibus; two early morning drives; good roads; easy to moderate walking, mostly on tarred or dirt roads and tracks; climate is generally very pleasant at this time of year, with cool mornings and warm days, and a low chance of rain.

Price: $3,995 in 2025

Due to limited availability, please contact the VENT office to register for this departure.
