Morocco
Tour Overview
An enchanting blend of history, landscapes, and birdlife awaits in Morocco—one of the most diverse and welcoming countries in North Africa. From the snow-dusted Atlas Mountains to the sweeping dunes of the Sahara, this immersive expedition offers superb birding alongside the cultural riches of an ancient land.
Our journey begins in Marrakech, the “Red City,” whose bustling medina and historic mosques set the stage for the adventure ahead. Traveling west, we reach Agadir on the Atlantic coast, where the wetlands of Souss Massa National Park and the estuaries of Oued Souss provide refuge for Marbled Teal, Squacco Heron, Audouin’s Gull, and the critically endangered Northern Bald Ibis. In the Souss Valley, we’ll walk among argan groves alive with swifts, shrikes, and bulbuls.
Heading inland, we traverse desert plateaus toward the Tagdilt Track and Boumalne Dades, where the desert comes alive with Greater Hoopoe-Lark, Cream-colored Courser, Thick-billed Lark, and Pin-tailed Sandgrouse. Beyond, the great Erg Chebbi Dunes rise from the edge of the Sahara, home to Desert Sparrow, African Desert Warbler, and the regal Pharaoh Eagle-Owl. In these remote landscapes, we’ll feel the vast stillness of North Africa’s wild heart.
Finally, in the High Atlas Mountains, our search for Crimson-winged Finch, Atlas Wheatear, and Levaillant’s Woodpecker unfolds against snow-capped peaks and winding passes. Along the way, Morocco’s legendary hospitality, fine cuisine, and breathtaking scenery create an experience as rich in culture as it is in nature.
