Tour Overview

Uganda is one of Africa’s great natural crossroads, where open savannahs spill into rainforest and papyrus marshes, and where the wildlife of East and West Africa converge in a spectacular blend found nowhere else on the continent. This thoughtfully crafted highlights tour unveils the very best of this impossibly lush country—from towering mountains and crater lakes to sweeping grasslands and forest-lined rivers rich in life.

Our journey centers on three of Uganda’s most sought-after wildlife encounters. In Mabamba’s vast papyrus swamps, we search for the prehistoric-looking Shoebill, an emblematic species of equatorial Africa. In the cool highland forests of Kibale and Budongo, we track Chimpanzees through sun-dappled understory alive with kingfishers, hornbills, and mixed flocks. And in the mist-shrouded ridges of Bwindi, we undertake an unforgettable trek to stand eye-to-eye with a Mountain Gorilla—a moment that lingers long after the tour ends.

Yet Uganda’s appeal extends far beyond these marquee species. Queen Elizabeth National Park offers sweeping plains where Lions prowl, Elephants browse beneath acacia canopies, and the Kazinga Channel hosts immense pods of Hippopotamus and giant Nile Crocodiles. Birdlife throughout the country is dazzlingly rich, with possibilities for Albertine Rift endemics, forest turacos, dazzling sunbirds, bee-eaters, barbets, and Palearctic migrants moving through.

Uganda today is safe, welcoming, and wonderfully rewarding to explore. Comfortable lodges, improved roads, and exceptional guiding support a journey rich in natural history, cultural warmth, and unforgettable wildlife moments. While some days are full and drives can be long, the pace remains flexible, with optional hikes and porter assistance available for the Gorilla trek. In every corner of this remarkable country, Uganda reveals itself as one of Africa’s great treasures.

Ecosystems Experienced

Uganda’s landscapes form one of Africa’s richest ecological mosaics, where East African savannah meets West African rainforest. Vast papyrus swamps at Mabamba cradle the legendary Shoebill and flocks of herons, egrets, and kingfishers. Acacia-dotted savannas, lakes, and wetlands in Lake Mburo support Zebra, Eland, and an array of raptors and waterbirds. In the cool, steep ridges of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest—one of the continent’s most biodiverse strongholds—half of the world’s remaining Mountain Gorillas live among Albertine Rift endemics and lush montane vegetation. Queen Elizabeth National Park adds open plains, crater lakes, and the wildlife-rich Kazinga Channel, while the great forests of Kibale, Budongo, and Murchison Falls blend towering canopy, riverine corridors, and woodland savannas alive with chimpanzees, monkeys, forest specialists, and hundreds of birds.

Expected Climate

Temperature
Days are generally warm and pleasant across Uganda, with daytime highs in the 80s °F. Evenings cool comfortably into the 60s °F, while the highlands—such as Bwindi or Ruhija—can dip into the low 50s °F. Lowland areas occasionally climb into the 90s °F, especially in open savanna regions.
Rainfall
June and July fall within Uganda’s drier season, when sunshine is common and rainfall limited. Brief showers or mist can still drift through rainforest and montane areas, adding to the lushness of the canopy without disrupting activities.
Seasons
Travel takes place during the dry season, a time of clear skies, bright mornings, and stable weather ideal for wildlife viewing, forest walks, and primate tracking. Earlier rains keep the landscape vibrant and green, offering both comfort and exceptional visibility for birds and mammals across Uganda’s diverse habitats.
