Southeastern Brazil: Best of the Atlantic Forest

Departure Date: October 20 - November 6, 2025

Have you ever dreamt of birding one of the most diverse countries on earth? Brazil’s list is nearing 2,000 species, and in late 2025 we plan to see around 400 species in the diverse endemic-rich Atlantic forest of Southeastern Brazil. Centered on Intervales State Park and Itatiaia National Park with a few days in the Ubatuba area, we will scour the hills, forests, marsh, and savanna for 140 endemics. More than 20 species of hummingbirds are possible with the likes of Festive and Frilled coquettes and two plovercrests spiking the color scale. In 2024 we saw Long Tufted Screech-, Tawny-browed, and Rusty-barred owls. Spot-billed and Saffron toucanets are both possible on this route, as are 10 species of parrots. In 2024 we had an amazing 26 species of antbirds, ranging in size from the massive Giant Antshrike to the tiny Star-throated Antwren. Sharp-tailed Streamcreeper, Araucaria Tit-Spinetail, and Orange-eyed Thornbird are among the 30 species of Furnariids we could encounter. More than 50 species of flycatchers are possible! Adding some flamboyant color to the list are the tanagers, with names like Brassy-breasted, Gilt-edged, and Red-necked. We are bound to enjoy Brazil! Join me and Raphael Santos in Brazil this October. $500 discount!
