Scott Baker is an Australian naturalist and tour leader whose lifelong passion for wildlife began in the wooded suburbs of Melbourne. At 11, he received his first pair of binoculars and set out to identify every bird in his neighborhood—an endeavor that soon grew into a lifelong pursuit of discovery. By 15, he was leading weekly bird walks and cofounding the Yarran Dheran Junior Field Naturalists Club. In 1988, his contributions to conservation were recognized when he was named Nunawading’s Young Citizen of the Year.
Over more than 30 years, Scott has explored nearly every corner of Australia, guiding tours and documenting the continent’s diverse birdlife. He is particularly drawn to rare and cryptic species, shorebirds, and seabirds, having spent countless hours offshore in pursuit of pelagic specialties. His field experience extends beyond birds to include mammals, reptiles, and frogs, often involving late-night spotlighting sessions to expand the day’s discoveries.
A respected member of Australia’s birding community, Scott moderates birdwatching forums and serves on rare bird committees. Since 2017, he has led birding and nature tours throughout Australia and Southeast Asia, sharing his deep knowledge and enthusiasm for the wild.
