Cambodia
Tour Overview
Few countries combine natural and cultural treasures like Cambodia. Beyond its storied temples, this small Southeast Asian nation harbors an astonishing diversity of birds, including some of the rarest on Earth. From the tranquil flooded forests of Tonle Sap Lake to the dry dipterocarp woodlands of Tmatboey, every landscape offers extraordinary encounters.
We begin in Siem Reap, exploring the majestic ruins of Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, and Ta Prohm, where ancient stones meet forests alive with parakeets, owlets, and mynas. On Tonle Sap Lake, we’ll navigate through floating villages to Prek Toal, where thousands of storks, pelicans, and ibises fill the sky—one of Asia’s greatest birding spectacles.
From there, our journey continues to Tmatboey, where community-based conservation protects the last breeding strongholds of Giant Ibis and White-shouldered Ibis. Nearby grasslands harbor Bengal Florican and Manchurian Reed-Warbler, while the woodlands ring with the calls of woodpeckers and cuckoos. In Veal Krous, we’ll witness the incredible “Vulture Restaurant,” supporting populations of Red-headed, Slender-billed, and White-rumped vultures—species nearly gone from the rest of Asia.
Heading east, we’ll follow the Mekong River for a chance to see Mekong Wagtail and Irrawaddy Dolphin, then explore Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary, a haven for Green Peafowl, Hornbills, and the striking Black-shanked Douc Langur. The trip concludes in Phnom Penh, with a final search for the recently described Cambodian Tailorbird.
A blend of adventure and discovery, this tour celebrates Cambodia’s enduring beauty and the people safeguarding its remarkable wildlife.
